Fabrics We Use

All Lili & Do pieces are made with natural fabrics (both the outer fabric and the lining). They are breathable, kind to your skin, hypoallergenic, durable, biodegradable, and suitable for the sunniest climate.

COTTON

Cotton is a natural fiber derived from the seeds of the cotton plant, primarily from the genus Gossypium. It is one of the most widely used fabrics globally, thanks to its versatility, comfort, and breathability. Cotton is spun into yarn or thread and then woven or knitted into fabric.

Benefits of Cotton Fabric:

  1. Breathability: Cotton is a highly breathable fabric, allowing air to circulate and helping to keep the body cool. This makes it a popular choice for warm-weather clothing.
  2. Soft and Comfortable: Cotton is known for its softness, which makes it comfortable to wear, especially for those with sensitive skin. It becomes softer with each wash while maintaining its strength.
  3. Hypoallergenic: Cotton is naturally hypoallergenic, making it a good choice for people with allergies or sensitive skin. It doesn’t irritate the skin, unlike some synthetic fabrics.
  4. Durability: Cotton is a durable fabric that can withstand wear and tear, frequent washing, and exposure to sunlight. High-quality cotton fabrics can last for many years with proper care.
  5. Natural and Biodegradable: As a natural fiber, cotton is biodegradable, making it a more environmentally friendly option compared to synthetic fabrics like polyester. When properly composted, cotton can break down into organic matter.
  6. Low Static: Cotton doesn’t build up static electricity, which can be a problem with some synthetic fabrics. This makes it more comfortable to wear, especially in dry conditions.

Overall, cotton is a highly versatile and popular fabric known for its comfort, breathability, and ease of care, making it suitable for a wide variety of uses.

LINEN

Linen is a natural fabric made from the fibers of the flax plant (Linum usitatissimum). It is known for its durability, breathability, and distinctive texture. It is often used in clothing due to its strength and versatility.

Benefits of Linen Fabric:

  1. Breathable and Cool: Linen is highly breathable and has excellent moisture-wicking properties, making it ideal for warm climates. It allows air to flow freely, keeping the wearer cool and dry even in hot weather.
  2. Durable and Strong: Linen is one of the strongest natural fibers, even stronger than cotton. It is highly durable and can withstand frequent use and washing, making it a long-lasting fabric choice.
  3. Absorbent: Linen can absorb up to 20% of its weight in moisture without feeling damp. This makes it great for towels, summer clothing, and bedding, as it can help keep you dry and comfortable.
  4. Eco-Friendly: Linen is a more sustainable fabric because the flax plant requires fewer pesticides and less water. The entire flax plant can also be used, making linen production more resource-efficient. Additionally, linen is biodegradable.
  5. Hypoallergenic: Like cotton, linen is hypoallergenic and doesn’t irritate the skin. Its natural fibers are gentle on sensitive skin, making it a good choice for those with allergies or skin sensitivities.
  6. Naturally Anti-Bacterial: Linen has natural anti-bacterial properties, which makes it a hygienic option for clothing.
  7. Unique Texture and Appearance: Linen has a distinctive texture with a slightly rougher feel than cotton, which many people find appealing. It also has a natural luster that gives it a sophisticated appearance, and it softens over time with wear and washing.
  8. Low Static and Lint-Free: Linen fabric produces little static electricity and doesn't shed lint, which can be beneficial for maintaining a clean and neat appearance.
  9. Natural Wrinkling: Although linen is prone to wrinkling, this is often considered part of its charm and casual, laid-back aesthetic. Many people appreciate the relaxed look that linen provides, which adds to its appeal in warm-weather clothing.

Overall, linen is a highly durable, sustainable, and breathable fabric, making it an excellent choice for comfortable clothing, home furnishings, and eco-friendly products. Its unique texture and appearance also lend a natural elegance to any garment or item.

TENCEL

Tencel is made from wood pulp, primarily from eucalyptus, beech, and spruce trees. It's known for being an eco-friendly fabric. The manufacturing process of Tencel involves dissolving the wood pulp into a solvent and then extruding it into fibers. The process is considered more sustainable than many other textile production methods because it uses a closed-loop system, which recycles most of the solvent and water used.

Benefits of Tencel Fabric:

  1. Eco-Friendly: The production of Tencel is environmentally responsible, with lower water and chemical use. The raw material (wood) is often sourced from sustainably managed forests.
  2. Soft and Smooth: Tencel fibers are known for their soft, smooth texture, which feels gentle on the skin, making it ideal for sensitive skin or people who prefer comfortable clothing.
  3. Breathable: Tencel is highly breathable and helps regulate temperature, making it suitable for warm weather. It absorbs moisture efficiently and keeps you cool and dry.
  4. Strong and Durable: Despite its softness, Tencel is a strong and durable fabric. It resists wrinkles and holds its shape well, even after repeated washing.
  5. Biodegradable: Since Tencel is made from natural fibers, it is biodegradable, which makes it a more sustainable option for those concerned about reducing their environmental footprint.
  6. Moisture-Wicking: Tencel efficiently wicks away moisture, making it a popular choice for activewear and bedding. It helps keep you dry and comfortable throughout the day.
  7. Hypoallergenic: The smooth surface of Tencel fibers reduces the potential for irritation, making it a good option for people with allergies or sensitive skin.

Tencel is often blended with other fabrics like cotton, linen, or wool to create garments that combine the best qualities of each material.
